Each room that utilizes a roll product will automatically have a lay direction assigned to it. By default, the direction is indicated by an arrow that appears in the upper-left corner of the room.

Lay directions in Measure do not reflect real-world compass orientations. They are simply used to indicate how material should be laid out in each room relative to the others in the takeoff. As such, north always points toward the top of the drawing, west always points to the left, and so on. Rooms that utilize non-roll products will not display an arrow.
Tip:
Choose a lay direction without any rooms selected, and all newly drawn rooms will use that direction until another one is chosen.
How To:
Change Lay Direction
- Select one or more rooms.
- Click the down arrow in the Lay Direction box.
- Click one of the 8 directions listed.
Match Lay Direction to Wall Angle
See: Lay Along Side.
Designate a Custom Lay Direction
- Select one or more rooms.
- Click within the text field of the Lay Direction drop-down box.
- Enter a number of degrees between 1 and 359.
- Press the Tab key or click outside the Lay Direction text field for the custom setting to be applied.
Tip:
Double-click a room on the takeoff to open the Room Properties window. From there you can adjust the location of the lay direction arrow.
