Carpet Cut Sheets for Pattern Carpets
How is everyone handling carpet cuts on pattern carpets? Are you adding waste to the end/beginning of the cut sheet?
Before moving to RFMS we preferred to put a full pattern repeat at the end of each cut, but have not been able to find an easy way to do this using RFMS and have had to re-order some costly carpets.

The main issue stems from our industry as a whole not understanding pattern matches and as mentioned by Brian we are doing the math correctly with matches, we just aren't doing them how the industry typically does them. If you were to be certified by a mill to install, they would teach you how to match as Measure is doing it.
The typical logic is the installer needs a full match, when all they need is a cut length that contains enough repeats to match. That cut might be an additional 3' or maybe an extra 9" is needed to match.
What if we added a project-level option to include a full, half, or quarter pattern match at the end of each cut?
It would fit nicely in this section of Measure Options:
If you want to do the match old school style do the following. Remove the pattern match size from the product, and do the take-off without a match. Then, count your cuts and enter the number of LF needed for the match in user-added waste length.
If you let Measure do the match, make sure to select Pattern Repeat at the start of the roll in Measure options. This compensates for where the mill might cut on the match.
We manually add the pattern repeat. The pattern feature in measure is designed like we are installing wallpaper. In theory it works, however, it is not realistic for material that has to be cut in , stretched, and manipulated.
I have had several conversations with people at RFMS about this and recently made headway with it being taken to the development group.
Hopefully they will come up with something soon. Even if it is just the ability to manually add user waste to individual cuts.
Good to hear you have spoken with RFMS as we too have brought it up several times!
I agree with Mr. Quinn. Start the pattern in the halls and have each room pattern match as the industry standard and you will be able to shift the pattern for the best layout. It works very well. If you are concerned about roll crush, damage from forklift, you can always add the length of 1 repeat in the user waste length.
Brian and Megan....

If more granularity is needed, we could instead place a new pattern option for each product on the worksheet
