Change stair "Lay Direction" to sideways

The latest update took away the ability to turn stair material sideways.

Up/Down works fine for most things.... BUT... wood look sheet vinyl.

You need to turn it sideways so that the "plank look" runs parallel with the step, not down the stairs. That would not look right at all.

Can we add this back into the program, or is there a way to turn it other than drawing each step/riser separate!

  • I understand what your saying now Aaron I hadn't read your post closely enough but try this work around. I dropped in a run of stairs from 'quick stairs' and selected the top edge then the 'lay alongside' icon. This seems to work.

  • Great . do your have a work around for the mobile app?

Many carpets still have a grain and need to run with the room direction...never seen a room run up or down!

Don't under stand why this option was removed.

  • Thanks for the reply Barry,

I am using Build 3692 as well.

I have the same option shown as you when I am using plank or tile square foot products, but NOT for Roll goods such as sheet vinyl. For some reason those only have the Up down option.

Unfortunately, for example... 12ft wide roll of vinyl, if "wood look" type, has to be turned sideways on the steps when installing for "board pattern" to run parallel with the step rather than down it.

When trying to calculate material now for this, I have to draw separate step/riser pieces, so that I can turn the direction sideways and properly adjust my waste on the roll. If I use the stair editor, My waste is much higher depending on the stair width. (example - 4'6" wide steps on a large commercial job I just quoted... 2 pc side by side from stair editor creates massive waste, versus the pieces running the other way on the roll

Here are screenshots of 12' Vinyl roll goods options since the last update, Up/Down only..... and pics of the massive waste difference between me drawing them separate and turning them right/left (1st pic)versus what the updated stair editor does with only up/down options. (2nd pic)

Hopefully this gets corrected as it is causing a lot of wasted time drawing steps separate. (last building had 6 stairwells with 72 steps per stairwell, so 432 steps total! That was a lot of copy/paste to get them separate to adjust the huge waste factor!)

    Hope that all makes sense.

  • That's Brilliant! That should absolutely work!

Seems so obvious now, I use that all the time on angled homes/rooms etc. Needed an outside eye to see it, lol!

Thanks for taking the time to look at it Barry, I really appreciate it!

  • No problem, it was helpful for me too. I work for RFMS Australasia, we look after support/training for Australia and New Zealand.
