Diagonal Room Lay direction

When using the Diagonal Rectangle Tool, the material lay direction should automatically align with the angle of the wall used to create the room.

Currently, the tool allows you to draw angled rooms by defining the first wall segment and its angle , but the material lay direction does not inherit that same orientation by default. Instead, it requires manual adjustment after the room is created.

Expected behavior:

  • The lay direction should default to match the angle of the first wall (or primary wall axis) used when drawing the room.
  • Since angled rooms almost always require material to be installed parallel to the walls, this should be automatic in the majority of cases.

Direction controls (North/South, East/West):

  • These options should be interpreted relative to the room’s wall orientation, not global/cardinal directions.
  • Example:
    • “North/South” = parallel to the primary wall axis
    • “East/West” = perpendicular to that wall
  • This keeps direction controls meaningful even when the room is rotated off-axis.

Why this matters:

  • In real-world installs, layout follows the building geometry—not compass directions.
  • Eliminates repetitive manual rotation of material in every angled room.
  • Reduces user error and speeds up takeoff workflow.

  • I can answer part of this for you.

The Lay Directions are not according to compass directions. They are relative to your computer monitor. The top of your screen is North. The bottom is South.

    Hope this helps some.
