Using the Tile Editor

tile_editor.pngUse this tool to create non-repeatable tile designs, such as mosaics.

Tip: Only square and rectangular tiles can be added through the tile editor. For non-rectangular tiles use the Custom Patterns or Quick Tile features.

For a video explanation of this feature: The Tile Editor - Part 1 and The Tile Editor - Part 2

The Tile editor has many tools contained in its own tab of the ribbon bar.

Calculation

There are two types of calculation methods to choose from. The currently selected method will appear in the Calculation section of the ribbon bar.

  • Area Calculation: Uses primarily room area and size of tile to estimate quantity needed. Can only be used with repeating patterns. Use of grout will deduct tile area. Large commercial areas should use this method.

Note: User must add extra waste percentage on the tile product.

  • Tile Count: Carefully counts each tile required, reusing leftover partial tiles using the rules you specify in the product list. Slower, but better for smaller complex areas and required when the tile design does not follow a repeating pattern.

Layers

This section allows you to select different layers, manage these layers, and select a pattern start method. For more information see the article Tile Editor: Layers.

Pattern

Draw a single instance of a pattern, then use the tools in this section to fill the room with it, and control pattern repeat and placement. For more information see the article Tile Editor: Pattern.

View

Use the check box in this section to show or hide the tile lay direction arrows.

Close

In this section there is the option to select another room to work on while in the Tile Editor as well as the option to shut down the Tile Editor completely.
