Setting the lay direction of material in a room might be done to adjust waste percentages on a project or even for simple aesthetic reasons. There are three ways to adjust material lay direction in a room:
- Lay Direction - adjusting the cardinal lay direction
- Lay Along Side - select a side of a room to lay the material along
- Lay From Perimeter Points - select perimeter points to lay material along
Each room that utilizes a roll product will automatically have a lay direction assigned to it. By default, the direction is indicated by an arrow that appears in the upper-left corner of the room.
Lay directions in Measure do not reflect real-world compass orientations. They are simply used to indicate how material should be laid out in each room relative to the others in the takeoff. As such, north always points toward the top of the drawing, west always points to the left, and so on. Rooms that utilize non-roll products will not display an arrow.
Tip: Choose a lay direction without any rooms selected, and all newly drawn rooms will use that direction until another one is chosen.
