Cut Sequencing

Arrange cuts in a specific order.

Clicking the "Show Cut Sequence" button toggles between the "Estimate" and "Cut Sequence" windows. Whereas the Estimate window provides a diagram of rolls and cuts, the Cut Sequence window contains a list of cut names for the currently selected roll product.

In most cases, the cuts will all appear under a heading that reads "Not grouped". They can then be set into a specific allocation order by using the various buttons at the top of the window.

If Measure's "Allocation Grouping" feature is used, each group will have a heading under which the cuts belonging to that group are listed. Individual cuts within a group can be set in a certain order and entire allocation groups themselves can be rearranged on the roll.

The functions of the buttons along the top of the window changes depending on whether a group or an individual cut is selected. See the "Cut Sequence Options" section below.

Note: Groups are always allocated higher on the roll than ungrouped cuts.

How To:

1.  Toggle into the Cut Sequence window by clicking the "Show Cut Sequence" button under the Ribbon Bar's "Estimate" tab.

2. Select one or more cuts or allocation groups. They may be selected directly on the drawing, or by clicking their name(s) in the Cut Sequence window.

3.  Use the buttons along the top of the window to indicate the position of the cut or allocation group. Once it has been sequenced, its name will be bolded.

The order of bolded items indicates their positions on the roll. The first bolded name on the list represents the first cut at the beginning of the roll.

Note: While the order of bolded cuts represents their positions on the roll, unbolded (and therefore unsequenced) cuts are not listed in any particular order.

4.  Repeat steps 2-3 for each cut and allocation group that needs to be sequenced.

5. When sequencing is complete, click the "Apply" button in the lower-right corner of the window.

Note: Exiting Layout Mode or selecting a different material prior to clicking "Apply" will result in the loss of the custom sequence.

Cut Sequence Options

Cut_Seq_Push_to_Top.png Push to Top
The selected cut will be moved to the top of its group. If this option is used on a group name, the entire group will be pushed to the top of the sequence.

Cut_Seq_Promote_Cut.png Promote
If the selected cut has already been sequenced, it will be promoted by one spot. If it has not yet been sequenced, it will be added to the list of sequenced cuts at the very bottom. When this option is used on a group name, the entire group is promoted by one spot.

Cut_Seq_Demote_Cut.png Demote
If the selected cut has already been sequenced, it will be demoted by one spot. If it has not yet been sequenced, it will be added to the list of sequenced cuts at the very bottom. When this option is used on a group name, the entire group will be demoted by one spot.

Cut_Seq_Push_to_Bottom.png Push to Bottom
The selected cut will be set as the last sequenced cut within its group. If this option is used on a group name, the entire group will be pushed to the bottom of the list of sequenced groups, though it will remain above any unsequenced groups and cuts.

Cut_Seq_Auto_Sequence.png Auto-Sequence
The selected cuts will be added to the top of their group. Their order will be based on the order in which they were selected.

Example: A user selects cut 3.1, then ctrl+clicks cuts 2.1 and 1.1 to add them to the selection. When they invoke the Auto-Sequence feature, the three selected cuts are placed at the top of the sequence with 3.1 at the very top, followed by 2.1 and then 1.1.

If multiple cuts are selected simultaneously via a selection box they will be added to the top of the group, but because they were all added to the selection at the same time their order will be based on each cut's position. Those at the top-left of the selection will be placed toward the top of the sequence, while cuts at the bottom-right of the selection will be placed toward the end.

Cut_Seq_Remove_from_Sequence.png Remove from Sequence
The selected cut will be removed from the list of sequenced cuts, but it will remain in its group. If this option is used on a group name, the entire group will be taken out of the sequence but it will still be allocated above any ungrouped cuts.

Tip: It is possible to sequence allocation groups while leaving the individual cuts within each group unsequenced. In such a case, Measure will respect the group sequence, but it will optimize the placement of the cuts within each group.
